Our bags are made in the U.S. by artisans in Butte, Montana.
What makes World Totes so durable?
World Totes are designed and constructed to last. We make our bags from upholstery fabric, which is made to stand up to continual use and wear over time. Each bag is fully lined, and the lining helps distribute weight evenly in the bag, taking pressure off outer seams. Wide straps are attached to the bag with a double row of stitching, so they can hold plenty of weight. A gusseted corner finish reduces wear along the edges and corners, adds a bit of structure to the bottom of the bag, and takes pressure off the bottom seam.
How should I care for my bag?
Machine wash on cold, and tumble dry low. That’s the official version of our care instructions. But it might make you less nervous about sorting your laundry with 100% accuracy to know that we have thrown these bags in the wash with other laundry, washed on a variety of temperatures, with great results.
Can I use an iron if the bag comes out of the dryer wrinkled?
We rarely find a need to iron our bags after laundering, but if you want to touch up a bag, set your iron to medium-low heat. Some of the upholstery fabrics have synthetic content, and ironing at higher temperatures can send you running to the store for an iron cleaning kit.
Will you be selling other kinds of bags on your site?
Yes. We are working in collaboration with the artisans who sew World Totes bags to create new designs. At the same time, we are identifying other tote bag companies that share our commitments to excellent quality, fair wages, and economic development. What do you mean by “fair wage”?
By “fair wage,” we mean a wage on which a person may reasonably live. Looking at wages this way, it’s easy to see that a fair wage might be different in different places and different living circumstances and family situations. We do not mean the federal minimum wage, as a large percentage of minimum wage workers live in poverty. (Do an Internet search on “living wage” to learn more.)
Can I buy World Totes at wholesale prices?
Yes. We welcome anyone to buy at wholesale—no need to present your reseller’s license. On the first order, we ask that you order a minimum of 12 bags. Contact us for wholesale pricing and to set up a wholesale account.
